'Each flower and color has its own message'

Master binders Sofia Tavares and Marc Noël met while working in a flower store. They decided to start a flower store together and in 2015 started Moments Subtils in Bastogne, Belgium. June 2023 their second flower store, with the same name, opens in downtown Brussels. Also, Sofia and Marc find challenge in decorating events and participating in competitions. In September, they are both participants in the Belgian Flower Arranging Championships.

The pair has a passion for the beauty of nature and for flowers. 'Floristry for us is a language of flowers to pass on all the beauty. We find inspiration in a walk in the woods, in a city and its architecture or simply in a flower or a moment of wonder.'

The significance of funeral arrangements for Sofia and Marc? 'Words can bring comfort, but flowers have the extra power to express emotions stronger than in words. For us, all flowers and all colors can be used in funeral arrangements, because each flower and color has its own message.'

Moments Subtils is the name of two flower stores in Bastogne, Belgium, and in the heart of Brussels.

Funeral flower arrangements come in many forms. But what is and remains important is a personal touch. Who the deceased was, and what he meant to his loved ones can be expressed very beautifully with flowers and symbolism.

Lush Natural Elegance

Lush, succulent green leaves that shine or have special markings make plants irresistible. There is a preference for a base of tranquility in the interior, with large plants with distinct leaf textures being an important addition. Plant arrangements give many possibilities and exude luxury.

Autumn Tide

The approach of autumn is already announcing itself in mid-August. The wind sounds different, there is more moisture in the air, and the spiders diligently create more and more silver air bridges between plants and flowers. Foggy gray days alternate with sunny warm late summer days. And the outdoor scent, too, is more prominent, more earthy.

Thriving heritage in Antwerp

The stately Paleis op de Meir in Antwerp is the setting for the boutique edition of Floraliën. The regal city residence, a heritage gem from the 18th century, will enter into dialogue with creations by top florists from home and abroad. From Oct. 1 to 6, contemporary floral creations will bring to life the botanical motifs in the historic interior of the Palace on the Meir.

Florists sidelined by Topbloemen.nl

Online flower sender Topbloemen.nl is discontinuing its network of local florists for the distribution of bouquets ordered online. The fixed cooperation with 83 local florists in the Netherlands will be dissolved by June 30, 2025 at the latest, preferably even earlier. A letter with this announcement was delivered to the affiliated florists on June 3.
