Export of flowers and plants over 7 billion euros in 2024

Dutch exports of flowers and plants reached sales of 7.1 billion euros in 2024, up 4% from the previous year. This is according to export statistics from Floridata, published by the Association of Wholesalers in Floricultural Products (VGB).
Sustainability is more than a buzzword

There is no doubt that our sector has recently come under fire in terms of sustainability. At the beginning of October the report came out: 'Work of florist in France proves deadly: link between pesticides and death of child demonstrated for the first time'. A little later the municipality of Zutphen was in the press: "On the initiative of the Party for the Animals, the municipality no longer gives flowers as gifts because, according to a majority of the city council, they are not sustainable.
Florists sidelined by Topbloemen.nl

Online flower sender Topbloemen.nl is discontinuing its network of local florists for the distribution of bouquets ordered online. The fixed cooperation with 83 local florists in the Netherlands will be dissolved by June 30, 2025 at the latest, preferably even earlier. A letter with this announcement was delivered to the affiliated florists on June 3.

When we think of spring, we quickly think of the trumpeting of the flower bulb assortment. It is especially the tulips that pop up in all sorts of ways, they are our national symbol. We usher in the season with a wonderful tulip picking day and Keukenhof shows what the Netherlands is big at. But spring also has a subtle side. Then our gaze turns to the little ones. They bring joy and endearment.
