Steelgrass

Working with steel grass is labor intensive but the result is ever really special and it dries very nicely - so after the wedding the dried object can be kept for a long time. The steel grass is processed using a braiding and weaving technique around a base of wire. At the ends, a beautiful wrap is made with copper-colored bouillon wire. Two beautiful Gloriosa flowers make
't complete.

'Boho has the playful, seventies hippie flair with a certain chic'

Belgian Floral Designer Chantal Post enjoyed the master's degree in floral design in Vught. As president of the Belgian florists' union Be-Florist, she has been committed to promoting the beautiful profession of floristry and supporting florists since 2021.

'The contemporary bohemian style you see a lot at weddings is a melting pot of different cultural influences. Bohemian (or boho) fashion, is a timeless and stylish look perfect for anyone who wants to look chic with a nonchalant touch. Accessories, often made from natural materials such as wood, stone and shells, also play a prominent role. The free-spirited style combines different textures and vibrant colors into an eclectic yet cohesive whole.'

'A signature boho bridal bouquet has a natural look - combining the playful, casual seventies hippie flair with a certain chic. The waterfall shape is also typical of a boho bridal bouquet - especially if it is realized with special natural materials or different textures.'

'In bridal work I can put my passion'

For floral designer Max van de Sluis, one of the most important characteristics of bridal floral work is that it is, above all, personal. 'In my experience, the bouquet should perfectly match the bride and the person she is or at least the personality she wants to express. That also makes design for wedding flower arrangements always a fun challenge. Our profession is very versatile, and within all these dimensions, bridal work is not only an important part but also a facet that I really enjoy working on. This is where I can very sincerely put my passion and enthusiasm.

Working with materials of the season always gives me something extra. Fun to do and a fine result also gives building up a flower or using only one kind of (flower) material - as I was able to show several times in this session.'

'Bridal work remains my favorite!'

'It's no question,' says floral designer Hanneke Frankema, 'bridal work remains the favorite for me! With bridal work you go that extra mile and you can really dive into the techniques and go for refinement, perfection and details. Bridal floral work is in almost every photo so there is no room for error.'

'Personally I really like a strong pronounced shape, to show it well I stick a lot of the flowers. By the way, this is a technique with many possibilities, and much stronger than you might think. Many types of flowers hold up fine for a while after gluing. I glue the delicate, most fragile types of flowers on the day itself, but strong flowers and greenery often a day in advance.'

'Many florists find this very exciting, but try out gluing with some old leftover flowers. That way you build up more and more confidence and know better what you can ask of certain types of flowers. For gluing, I always use Smithers Oasis cold glue.'

'Achieving the pure with few different materials'

Floral artist Philippe Bas tries to do everything in life with passion and abandon. At nineteen, he was a professional soccer player. But because flowers also had his attention, he started his own flower store in Hasselt (B) at age 20. 'The common thread through my floral work is to try to achieve the pure with few different materials - while adding a fairy-tale touch.'

'Similarly with wedding flower arrangements in which he elaborates on the theme of Bohemian wedding. 'Bohemian to me means a very natural style with mostly natural materials such as wood, bark, fresh and dried grasses and wool, felt, paper. The colors range from orange over brown to bordeaux and pastel over beige to taupe.'

'Bridal bouquets may be larger and fuller than other bridal arrangements for a Bohemian wedding. With a nice mix of larger flowers like Dahlia, Chrysanthemum, Sunflower, Peony, Protea combined with smaller flowers like spray rose, Ranunculus and Lisianthus.'

Floral Boho Bridal Party
