Winter softness

A soft winter bouquet with a bouquet frame made of a polystyrene sphere that has been cut in half several times, resulting in different sized rings. Metal rings were also used for a playful effect. The rings are covered with all kinds of soft and natural materials in white and beige tones. The flower colors in this bouquet are also light and soft shades: Ornithogalum, Amaryllis, autumn anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’, Nerine, Agapanthus and two types of VIP roses.

Robust winter bulb

The base is a wicker basket covered with all kinds of pine cones. The basket is placed on a pin on a birch trunk. By choosing to incorporate plants, the arrangement is also long-lasting. Plants used: orchid, Scindapsus and Ceropegia. Some Diplocylcos tendrils and Larix branches have been placed in between. A robust arrangement with a winter look due to the sober materials and the finely tinted fragile flowers of the orchid.

‘A little nod to color’

Florist Marijke Geerdink has had her own business, Floral Queen floral stylists in Goor, for eight years, after working as a freelancer for a long time. 'We work with a team of true flower enthusiasts, which means we are constantly innovating and always trying to inspire the customer with new materials.'

‘In our floral industry, there is an increasing demand for sustainability. People are willing to pay more, but then they should also be able to enjoy it longer. So, more durable arrangements and vases and pots that are timeless.’

‘I work together with my sister Rosanne and in the evenings we regularly text each other with new inspiration. For the theme of winter, we found inspiration from fellow arrangers from the Scandinavian countries where it is really winter – and you can also find the real winter materials. For me, winter means: cold, icy, sober nature, candles, wood, pine cones, animals in the forest. The use of soft materials is also appealing and flower bulbs – which already refer to spring.’

'We generally work very colorfully, so it is quite a challenge to make beautiful arrangements with the austere winter materials. Hence, the arrangements also have a small nod to color.'

The Power of Print and Online

The leaves have fallen from the trees and the cold has steadily crept into our bones: winter has arrived and with it the run-up to Christmas has now really begun. A busy time for florists – with hopefully lots of sales. Although consumers seem to be keeping a tight hold on their wallets, they still want an inviting, warm and cozy home.

In terms of inspiration, our team of floral designers for this edition has, on the one hand, given shape to the beauty that winter can offer us. On the other hand, the Christmas special has the theme Luxury in harmony with nature. For this, the arrangers have often opted for traditional techniques and natural materials, resulting in festive arrangements that are also understated.

In addition, we have been very busy at the DPK Floral Magazine offices, and our new website dpkfloralmagazine.com will be online from January. Here, readers can read the magazine digitally and in multiple languages. An important step towards further internationalization and strengthening the magazine as a source of inspiration and professional knowledge. From now on, the latest news, fresh from the press and in an extensive form, can be found on the website.

Above all, we believe in the power of print. Our printed edition remains a unique medium for inspiring arrangements, opinions, and reports. However, the advantage is that with the speed and possibilities of the website, we can offer you, as subscribers, even more inspiration and information.

Another joyous occasion: DPK Floral Magazine is a media partner of the World Cup Floral Art, which will take place in The Hague from August 28-31. This means that in the run-up to the World Cup, we will regularly pay attention to the event, and that we, in collaboration with the VBW, will publish the official World Cup Magazine. This extra English-language edition of DPK Floral Magazine is free for all visitors to the World Cup Floral Art. And of course, it can also be read on our new website dpkfloralmagazine.com.

On behalf of the entire DPK Floral Magazine team, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a successful New Year – with plenty of new opportunities.

Green and flowers as a lifestyle

Upon entering, visitors are immediately struck by the pleasant and convivial atmosphere of the Trade Fair Aalsmeer. The beautiful presentations of plants and flowers add substance to the profession. While there aren't a plethora of groundbreaking innovations, the event provides an excellent and enjoyable overview of the versatility and strength of the Dutch floricultural sector.

Winter Wonders

From the square outside, an atmospheric illumination can be seen through the large windows of the Grote of Lebuinuskerk in Deventer on November 13th. Inside, the church is transformed into an intimate festive location for the Floral Event Winter Wonders. Two stages are connected by a catwalk and form the stage for the three floral designers who, at the invitation of the event team, will provide a number of demonstrations of stunningly beautiful arrangements in winter atmospheres. All this to inspire the floristry world that has flocked in large numbers.
