Own tulip for singer Yves Berendse

A unique, custom flower for Yves Berendse: a red, double tulip. The singer, who had his major breakthrough this past year with hit singles such as 'Terug in de tijd' and 'Alleen met jou', personally selected the new tulip. The flower was presented by the Dutch tulip growers (TPN) to mark the start of the cut tulip season, which in 2025 has the theme 'Celebrating a party'. The official name of the new tulip is: Tulipa 'Yves Berendse' and will be immortalized in the International Cultivar Register of Tulip Names.
Honourable
Yves Berendse: “It is a great honour that the Dutch tulip growers are offering me my own tulip. I think it's a beautiful flower! And after a great 2024 in which ‘Terug in de Tijd’ was heard a lot on the radio and throughout the country, 2025 is also starting great. I am proud that my name will be immortalised in the official international tulip register.”

At the top of our lungs
TPN chairman and tulip grower Arjan Smit: “Every year, at the start of a new cut tulip season, a special person is honoured with their own tulip, and as growers of a typically Dutch flower, we have a warm heart for the Dutch-language song. It is listened to frequently in our greenhouses. We sometimes say that thanks to Dutch music, not only our employees but also the tulips get an extra dose of energy and cheerfulness. This year, as growers, we would like to honour the new generation of Dutch-language singers. And then we cannot ignore Yves Berendse. Every time we hear his songs, everyone sings along at the top of their lungs and there is a party in the greenhouse. So it is only natural for us to surprise him with his own tulip.”

Characteristics
Characteristic of Tulipa ‘Yves Berendse’, as the botanical name is, is the attractive red colour and the many petals. The double tulip has leaves that stand nicely upright. In full bloom, the flower has a diameter of about 6 to 8 cm. ‘Yves Berendse’ comes from a cross between the pink tulip ‘Christmas Marvel’ and the double yellow-white tulip ‘Monte Sweet’. This strong cut flower was bred by Holland Bolroy Markt from Heiloo (NH) and is particularly suitable for flower production on water.
