The Boerma Institute in Aalsmeer is expanding the 2026 edition of the International Advanced Floral Design Course (ADFD) with a notable addition. Spanish floral designer and instructor Alex Segura will join the program as a guest lecturer; the course is designed for experienced florists who wish to further develop their technical and creative skills.
The four-week course is designed for participants who have previously completed a professional vocational training program in floral art, such as the Professional Dutch Floral Design Course at the Boerma Institute or a comparable program. The course focuses on contemporary wedding arrangements, funeral floral arrangements, event decorations, large-scale installations, and advanced construction techniques, among other topics.
According to the institute, Segura’s arrival is a significant addition to the program. The Spanish designer is internationally recognized as a renowned floral designer, instructor, demonstrator, and Florint jury member. Over the past decades, he has conducted demonstrations and training courses in Europe, Asia, North and Central America, and Australia. His work is known for innovative constructions, technical precision, and contemporary design.
In addition to Segura, Mike Boerma and Duc Thuan will also lead parts of the program. Boerma is active internationally as a teacher and floral designer and has been leading professional training courses in Aalsmeer for years. Duc Thuan IMF is known for his technical craftsmanship and contemporary design style.
The ADFD program attracts participants annually from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, and the Middle East. As such, the program combines in-depth technical training with an international learning environment where participants exchange experiences and design visions. The program takes place at the Boerma Institute in Aalsmeer.
