On February 9 & 10, spring kicked off at Star & Van der Gugten in Wetteren (BE) with an inspiring two-day event full of floral art, craftsmanship and a great selection of (spring) flowers. Three generations of florists: Daniël Ost, Erik Lockley and emerging Dutch talent Bente van Meurs let the flowers speak and showed innovative creations with materials you should not miss this season. Smithers-Oasis' sustainable products were also given a stage during the demonstration.
Star & Van der Gugten, a wholesaler specializing in cut flowers with cash & carry's in the Netherlands and a headquarters at Royal FloraHolland Rijnsburg, acquired Belgian wholesaler De Rijcke in 2017. Through their own growers' organization My-Blush, they offer special ornamental shrubs. They also sell a range of plants and accessories. Customers can order through the webshop or choose on site in the cash & carry. At the end of last year, Star & Van der Gugten moved to a brand new branch in Wetteren. This happy event was celebrated Feb. 9-10.
Wout van der Gugten, director of the Belgian company deliberately did not call it an open-door day, but an event to usher in spring. 'It is meant to be an informal event where customers can gain inspiration, discover the spring assortment and network over a snack and a drink. Especially for this occasion, three florists provided special demonstrations during the two days.'
