Smithers-Oasis introduces new plant-based floral foam

During the IPM in Essen, Smithers-Oasis presented a new plant-based floral foam called OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam. One of the first samples was presented to Hanneke Frankema – European Champion of floral art – by Chris Martens – director of Smithers-Oasis BeNeLux. The introduction fits in with the trend towards more sustainable materials in the floral industry.
The product is certified with a 4-star OK biobased rating from TÜV Austria, the highest possible score. The new floral foam is developed to offer the same properties and performance as traditional petroleum-based oasis foam. According to Smithers-Oasis, the product has a 56% lower carbon footprint compared to their regular foam. It contains no dyes and has a gray-green color when dry, which turns deep black after saturation with water.

OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam is designed for use with all types of flower stems, from delicate to woody and tropical varieties. The product is initially being introduced in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea and Japan. Florists can request free samples to test the foam themselves before it becomes available for purchase later this year.
